Bulgaria: BNT confirms preliminary participation in Eurovision 2015

 

BNT, the Bulgarian national broadcaster has confirmed to Eurovision.com.cy that Bulgaria has submitted a preliminary application to the EBU for participation at the forthcoming 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. Thus we might see the country return to the competition next year!

The Bulgarian broadcaster is yet to make a final decision regarding its participation at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. The deadline for countries to submit their applications to the EBU in order to participate in the  forthcoming Eurovision edition concluded on 15 September. Hereafter countries have a grace period until 10 October to make a final decision and can withdraw from the competition without facing a financial penalty.

BNT has released a statement regarding its plans for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest on the official BNT Eurovision website, stating that Bulgaria intends to return to the contest and has sent a preliminary application for participation to the EBU. The broadcaster reserves its right to make its a final decision on its participation by 10 October as stipulated by the EBU rules for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

Bulgaria is the 35th  country to confirm its intention to participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

In 2014 Bulgaria withdrew from the competition due to budget cuts and financial reasons.  The last time we saw the country on stage at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2013 when Stoyan and Elitsa represented Bulgaria in Malmo with Samo Shampioni.

 

 

Bulgaria debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2007, when it achieved a 5th placing with Stoyan and Elitsa’s Voda!

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21 and 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria.
